About Sol Riano

My work is an exploration of the monumental hidden within the microscopic. After thirty years as a mining engineer, a career defined by structural precision and the study of earth's raw materials, I have returned to my lifelong practice of oil painting to examine the world through a macro-realist lens.

I am captivated by the "architecture of light." Whether it is the liquid reflections on a Chilean cherry or the complex, distorted world inside a glass marble, my paintings aim to amplify details that the hurried eye often misses. By working on a large scale, I transform these fleeting optical moments into immersive experiences, inviting the viewer to lose themselves in the interplay of color, refraction, and depth.

My process is a bridge between two worlds: the disciplined observation of an engineer and the emotive fluidity of oil on canvas. Each piece is a study of how light can redefine an object, turning the everyday into something celestial and profound.
